Community & Safety Guidelines

Effective Date: August 26, 2026Zero Tolerance Standards

ByChance is built for spontaneous, authentic, real-world connections. We believe the best moments happen in the real world — at the same time and in the same place.

To keep ByChance safe, welcoming, and respectful for everyone, every member of our community must follow these Community & Safety Guidelines. These rules apply to all profiles, photographs, Pings, messages, waves, and interactions on our platform.

1. The Core Rules of Real-World Discovery

  • Respect Mutual Consent: Sending a wave is an invitation, not an entitlement. A conversation only begins when both users mutually wave. If someone does not wave back or stops responding, respect their decision and move on.
  • Be Authentic & Honest: Use authentic photos of yourself and honest profile information. Misleading identities, catfishing, and impersonation harm trust and are strictly prohibited.
  • Respect Physical Boundaries: Proximity discovery is a tool for spontaneous introductions. Never use ByChance to physically trail, corner, intimidate, or make anyone uncomfortable in the real world.

2. Zero-Tolerance Violations (Immediate Account Termination)

The following violations result in immediate account termination, device bans, and, where appropriate, referral to law enforcement authorities:

  • Child Sexual Abuse & Minor Exploitation (CSAM): ByChance is strictly for users aged 18 and older. Any content or behavior that exploits minors or depicts child sexual abuse is reported immediately to cybercrime authorities.
  • Non-Consensual Intimate Imagery & Sexual Harassment: Sharing explicit sexual photos, nudity, non-consensual imagery, deepfakes, or unsolicited sexual solicitations is strictly banned.
  • Proximity Stalking & Real-World Harassment: Using distance filters or discovery feeds to follow, menace, spy on, or harass individuals in physical locations.
  • Violent Threats & Hate Speech: Direct or indirect threats of violence, incitement of self-harm, hate speech targeting religion, caste, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or nationality.
  • Doxxing & Privacy Violations:Publishing another person's private phone numbers, home address, workplace, or private documents without explicit written consent.

3. Prohibited Conduct & Platform Abuse

To preserve an authentic community, the following behaviors are forbidden:

  • Financial Scams & Fraud: Soliciting money, promoting cryptocurrency schemes, pyramid schemes, or deceptive business offers.
  • Commercial Spam & Advertising: Using Pings, profiles, or messages for commercial marketing, escort services, or unauthorized commercial activities.
  • GPS Location Spoofing: Using mock location software, GPS spoofers, or modified binaries to falsify your real-world coordinates.
  • Automated Bots & Scraping: Using automated scripts, bots, or crawlers to send waves, harvest user data, or interact with our APIs.
  • Abusive Language: Profanity, derogatory slurs, persistent unwanted messaging, or intimidation.

4. Real-World Safety Guide (Meeting in Person)

ByChance helps you discover people who are around you right now. If you choose to meet someone from the app in person, always follow these practical safety guidelines:

1. Stay in Public Places

Always meet in public, populated, and well-lit venues — like a coffee shop, public library, campus lounge, or popular park. Never agree to meet in secluded, isolated, or private residential areas for a first meeting.

2. Tell a Friend

Share your plans with a trusted friend or family member. Let them know where you are going, who you are meeting, and when you expect to return.

3. Control Your Transportation

Always have your own independent transportation to and from the meeting spot. Do not rely on someone you just met to drive you home.

4. Guard Personal Details

Do not disclose sensitive information such as your residential address, financial information, daily commute schedule, or workplace details until you have established mutual trust over time.

5. Trust Your Instincts

If you ever feel uncomfortable, pressured, or unsafe at any point, end the interaction and leave immediately. Your physical safety always comes first.

5. Enforcement Framework: Report → Review → Action

We provide active in-app tools to empower every user:

  • How to Report:Tap the "Report" button on any profile card, Ping, or chat screen. Select the reason for your report. Reports are reviewed by our safety team.
  • Instant 1-Tap Block:Tapping "Block" immediately prevents that user from seeing your profile, viewing your Pings, or sending you waves or messages.
  • Graduated Enforcement: Depending on the severity of the violation, ByChance takes swift action, including:
    • Content removal and formal policy warnings.
    • Temporary restrictions on location sharing or wave limits.
    • Temporary account suspension.
    • Permanent account termination and phone number bans.
    • Referral to law enforcement / National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) for illegal acts.
